Enemies and adversaries created for convenience

Clifford D. May says he is puzzled because many Americans do not see that when Iran says “Death to America,” it considers itself the enemy of America, not just its adversary.

He expressed this idea, after suggesting the weird notion that if you see the UN General Assembly as being a great deliberative body, you need to consult a competent ophthalmologist.

He argued those points in his latest column; one that came under the title: “U.S. enemies and adversaries reveal intentions at United Nations General Assembly,” and was published on September 26, 2023 in the Washington Times.

Obviously, it is unknown to Clifford May with any adequate level of clarity, that he naïvely put himself squarely at odds with the American public which believes otherwise. May fell behind, having revealed how wide is the intellectual gulf that separates him from what he considers to be his American kinfolks.

Moreover, having trashed most of those folks in what looks like a habitual and mechanical fashion, Clifford May went on to associate them with a world he says is full of adversaries and enemies of America. In fact, he believes that most if not all that make up the United Nations, threaten the security of America as demonstrated by the word salads which they served during the General Assembly meetings, he went on to explain.

Holding on to such beliefs with the firmness that he does, and declaring that dictators and elected leaders from around the world have descended upon New York City to deliver what he calls “mind-numbing speeches replete with misinformation and disinformation,” Clifford May revealed another aspect of his character. It is that he believes he is the sole custodian of truth, thus placed himself above the world and above his fellow Americans.

There can be no denying that Clifford May’s description of himself clearly indicates that he believes he is paranoid, being so fearful of the world by his own observations and by constantly admitting that life terrified him no end. Whether or not he is also schizophrenic (which would make a dangerous mix,) depends on the level of delusion he experiences when left alone to ruminate over his thoughts.

For his own good, therefore, he who recommended that those who do not see things eye to eye with him, should consult a competent ophthalmologist, must now take his own advice and consult a competent shrink — if only to ascertain that he is stable enough where he stands at this point in time, and will not deteriorate any further, at least not anytime soon.

The importance of taking such a decision will be appreciated when it is realized that Clifford May’s outfit known as Foundation for Defense of Democracies, has some influence among both the legislators and executives of the superpower known as America. If he goes totally bananas, so will heavily armed America because he’ll drag it down with him. And no one knows what will happen next.

For those reasons, it is important that we make a serious effort to understand the undercurrents which are viewed by him and viewed by those like him whenever such undercurrents play out between America and the rest of the world. Here, in condensed form, is a compilation of passages written by Clifford May on this subject:

“Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi flew to New York. His speech to the General Assembly was triumphalist. ‘The endeavors to universalize American ideals throughout the world have proven to be failures,’ he asserted. Translation: A growing number of regimes are rejecting the idea of fundamental rights and freedoms. The import of Mr. Raisi’s remarks is that a new international community is becoming dominant. He called it an emerging order of non-Western states. Expect more dictators to sign up in the years ahead. This developing axis of enemies and adversaries poses a serious threat to America’s national security. But until Washington policymakers and legislators connect the dots and take a hard look at the portrait that appears, they can’t begin to formulate a coherent strategy in response”.

So the question to ask is this: Is America endangered by the likes of Clifford May, or will it happen that America will be preserved by him? In other words, is he the devil that will sink America? Or is he the Guardian Angel that will save America?

We find answers to these questions in the article. Here is Clifford May’s formulation, giving clues as to how he may comport himself in the future:

“Vice President Han Zheng declared China a natural member of the Global South and noted that China’s Belt and Road Initiative has over 3,000 projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. He called for global governance in a multipolar world. I’ll let you guess who would sit atop the tallest pole in the multipolar world that China envisions”.

That is, for once Clifford May refrained from trashing a suggestion that wasn’t his own — more surprising is the fact that the suggestion came from one of his archenemy, the Chinese Vice President.

When we take this development into account and when we mix it with what Clifford May has been saying throughout the article, we come out with the conclusion that there are reasons for us to be both optimistic and pessimistic about the future comportment of this man.

We can only encourage him to stay on the path that will maintain him respectful of other people’s points of view.
