To make this discussion easy to follow, let's accept for now
the notion that America
is split right down the middle between a constituency of the Right and one of
the Left. Also, for the sake of brevity, let's discuss only one of the
constituencies; that of the Right.
A basic tenet of the Right's ideology is to live under
governments which are as small as they can be. This means that the adherents to
this ideology want to live under a small municipal government that answers to a
tiny State government that answers to a nearly non-existent Federal government
that answers to no international institution that may or may not be structured
like a government.
This being the ideology, putting it in practice requires strategic
thinking, especially when the time comes for the electors to choose their
representatives. But guess what happens when that time comes. Most electors
vote tactically without regard to any long term strategy. That is, they vote
for the candidates who promise to alleviate what concerns them now. As it
happens, national security is a concern that looms large these days. Associated
with it is the security of Israel ,
which the leaders of the Right argue faces the same perils as America .
In that environment, the electors make their choice without
considering whether the proposed remedies will lead to a small government or a
big one. If the opposing candidates and the pundits hammer home the reality
that the promise to alleviate the immediate concern will mean electing a big
government, the electors will listen to anyone who develops a counterargument.
They will accept an opposing point of view, however weak it may be, to justify
voting for the promise of immediate relief … and the hell with the principle of
small government.
We have two articles that illustrate these realities as
vividly as can be. Both were published on November 12, 2016, each in a
different publication. One article came under the title “How Donald Trump Will
Divide American and Israeli Jews,” written by Shmuel Rosner and published in
the New York Times. The other came under the title: “Just How Much Should We
boycott Israel ?”
written by Elliott Abrams and published in the Weekly Standard.
Rosner points to a fact that has been demonstrated in
election after election in America .
It is that the Jewish American rank-and-file leans Left. On the other hand,
Elliott Abrams points to the fact that the self-appointed Jewish leaders – of
whom Abrams is one – lean Right. But where does the Israeli public stand?
According to Rosner and the polls, it stands on the Right and getting more
extreme by the day.
So we ask: who are the non-Jewish constituents in America that
vote for the Right? The answer is: they are the people who want a small
government. They are also the people that have developed such affinity for the
Israeli causes; they follow the instructions of Right Wing Jewish leaders, such
as Elliott Abrams. He is one of those that get paid by America to promote the causes of a foreign
government … that of Israel .
Those realities create a condition in which the American
electorate can be toyed with not only by those who break into the emails of
prominent people and expose their scandals, but also by the Jewish American
leaders who use the media to disseminate their message. Two passages follow,
one from each article; showing just how much the Jews take America 's electorate for granted:
Rosner asks this question: “What is going to happen if
Israeli Jews see American Jews oppose President Trump at every step? It will
make the Israelis question the Americans' good judgment, and doubt their
commitment to Israel 's
security.” To Rosner, only one thing counts. It is not America 's security; it is that of Israel , always Israel
and no one but Israel .
As to Abrams, he says this: “Like the Israeli electorate,
which keeps voting for Netanyahu, the American electorate has disappointed
them; it voted for a president and a Congress that want much tighter relations
with Israel. How about [the Left] boycotting the states that went to Trump?” To
Abrams, only one thing counts: the voice of America 's Jewish leaders, always
them, and no one but them.
In short, Shmuel Rosner believes that the Americans will
start looking after themselves instead of Israel only if they go insane. As
to Abrams, he believes that the American Left that refuses having tight
relations with Israel
must be ridiculed and never taken seriously.
