Elliott Abram is at it again doing the one thing he knows how to do. It is to pick ingredients, some of which would be wholesome and some unwholesome –– and bake a shit pie that would sicken your dog.
Abram worked at the State
Department during the Trump administration where he was put in charge of
Venezuela at a time when that country was going through a difficult time.
Whereas the situation in the country was no worse than it had been in all the
countries that went through similar periods from time to time, it became
seriously disruptive of normal life in Venezuela when the State Department
began to take credit for interfering with the internal affairs of that country.
Although they denied it and no
one believed their denial, the crowd that was working with Elliott Abram was
blamed for the dirty tricks that were played on the legitimate government of
Venezuela. These were tricks designed to discredit the government in the eyes
of a population that was expected to rise up and topple that government. What
happened instead was that the people rallied around the government because they
knew that the misery they were suffering was inflicted on them by America. They
knew it because they learned long ago that America’s hunger for the oil wealth
of Venezuela was prompting it to commit any and every crime against humanity
Elliott Abram and those like him could think of.
Having managed to seriously
damage the country of Venezuela but failing to topple its government, Elliott
Abram, who was pushed out of the State Department when Donald Trump was pushed
out of the White House, still dreams of hurting Venezuela except that he can no
longer do it by organizing crimes that disrupt the power grid or causing
mysterious explosions that scare the population, the way he used to. All he can
do now is badmouth the country he tried to defeat when he had the power, but
got defeated by it instead.
To badmouth Venezuela, Elliott
Abram wrote an article in which he tried to denigrate that country, but all he
could do was bake yet another shit pie for which he is famous. The main
ingredient he used this time, was a wholesome UN report which he amateurishly
painted into a false and unwholesome image. The article he wrote came under the
title: “New UN Report on Venezuela's Human Rights Calamity,” published on March
13, 2021 on the website of Council on Foreign Relations.
Here is how Elliott Abram
began his discussion: “The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michel
Bachelet, reported to the Human Rights Council on the situation in Venezuela.
Her report is a description of the viciousness and brutality of the Maduro
regime and its indifference to the human suffering of the Venezuelan people”.
But here is how the UN High
Commissioner, Michel Bachelet actually started her report: “In my recent
presentation on Venezuela to the Council, I acknowledge positive steps taken by
the Government. We will continue to provide technical assistance”.
When you see this kind of discrepancy
at the start of two pieces describing the same event, you know that Abram is
taking you on a swim in a sea that's made of raw sewage. You prepare yourself
for a very unpleasant journey, but you take it anyway because you want to know
how people like him operate to influence the political leaders of America.
These leaders have no time to think for themselves or the country, yet have the
power to make or break the country with the decisions they are elected to take
on behalf of the population. So, you go deeper into the Abram article to learn
more about the mentality you know by now is seriously contorted, and what you
see is the following passage:
“While the Maduro regime
argues that US sanctions explain the humanitarian crisis, the regime's own conduct
stops humanitarian work. Bachelet told the Council, [H]umanitarian assistance
is all the more essential. I am concerned about recent initiatives to impose
undue restrictions on NGOs' ability to operate, including freezing of assets. I
call for the resumption of suspended projects”.
But here is how Bachelet
actually explained what was happening:
“The access to basic services
like medical assistance, water, gas, food, petrol, has continued to be scarcer,
and was further limited by the effect of the pandemic. This contributed to
sparking social protests, and severely compounded the humanitarian situation.
Some report that wage is now under 1 US dollar per month while the price of
food has increased by 1,800%. One third of Venezuelans now live in a situation
of food insecurity. The death of at least 28 Venezuelan migrants in the
Caribbean Sea was another reminder of the tough choices some have to make. I am
concerned about recent initiatives to impose undue restrictions on NGOs'
ability to operate, including freezing of assets. I call for the resumption of
suspended projects”.
What this says is that the
misery suffered by the people of Venezuela is due to a couple of calamities.
One calamity is known as the pandemic. The other is known as America’s criminal
fondness to impose sanction on those who would starve to death or die trying to
escape the starvation.
While this was happening to
the people of Venezuela as a result of the work done by Elliott Abram and his
American team, things got a little suspicious in a small part of a vast
operation, prompting the government to investigate.
Instead of describing the
situation the way it happened, Abram lied to his readers by giving the
impression that the conduct of the Maduro government stopped all humanitarian
work in the country … which is as criminal to say as to have imposed the regime
of sanctions in the first place.
And that’s the shit pie that Elliott Abram has baked for his readers to consume.
