There is something romantic about a tiny society such as that of Gaza standing up to the military might of the NATO alliance headed by the American superpower, and forcing it to self-emasculate in public.
This
happened in real life when in the last war, Israel was so frustrated by the
tenacity of the Gazans, it did what the loser does when he alleviates his
frustration by kicking the cat. What Israel did, was bomb the building that’s
housing the media of the world for telling the truth about a dispossessed
people winning the war, armed only with a humanity that proved to tower well
above the savagery of beasts flying stealth aircraft and dropping precision
guided bombs on mothers nursing their babies.
The
excuse that Israel gave for bombing the media building, was that the freedom
fighters of Gaza (known as Hamas) were developing an apparatus that could jam
the radar and guidance systems controlling the weapon systems which America produces
and gives to Israel to commit war crimes and pretend to engage in self-defense.
For the record, no such system has yet been developed by any of the most
advanced countries, including the military superpowers: America, Russia and
China.
And
so, whether it is true or false that Israel believes, the blockaded Hamas could
develop such a system while hiding in a small space inside a media building,
says that the Israelis perceive the Hamas organization of Gaza as being made of
fire-breathing giants armed with a humanity that towers above the savage beasts
flying NATO’s stealth aircraft and dropping precision guided bombs on the
unarmed Palestinians.
This
prompts the obvious questions: Why is it that the American political elites are
not putting an end to this madness? And why is it that the general public is
not doing something about it? The answer to both questions is that we are
looking at a long and sordid story that took yours truly nearly 4,000 articles
to explain, and I am not done yet.
But
there is an article that will give an inkling as to what’s going on. It came
under the title: “How the US & Israel should move forward together,”
written by Yossi Beilin and Daniel Kurtzer, and was published on July 7, 2021
in the New York Daily News. Here, in condensed form, is how Beilin and Kurtzer
started their article:
“The
new government in Israel mirrors the range of Israeli views from the peace
process to Israel’s character. The politics of maintaining this coalition will
be challenging. Near the top of the agenda will be relations with the Biden
administration, the Democratic Party and American Jews. Care will be required
to build and repair ties. There are three policy areas that will require
political discretion and acumen by the leadership on both sides”.
The
policy areas which the authors discuss in detail are these: (1)
Israel-Palestinian relations. (2) Israeli-American Jewish relations. (3)
Israeli-US relations.
Here
is what Beilin and Kurtzer say with regard to the Israel-Palestinian relations:
“Israeli
policy is moving toward integrating the occupied territories into Israel
through creeping annexation. Israel cannot kick the can down the road anymore.
During the term of its new government, Jews will become the minority and will
dominate a non-Jewish majority. Menachem Begin withdrew from Sinai despite his
previous hawkish commitments. Ariel Sharon withdrew unilaterally from Gaza
against all his previous vows. We don’t know what Bennett will do. It is possible
that he will advance toward peace with the Palestinians. For its part, the
American administration should encourage the Israeli leadership to meet the
challenge, rather than declare a childish moratorium on peace process
activity”.
Why
is this kind of argument ineffective? It is ineffective because it is based on
a distortion of reality. Whereas the writers make it sound like Begin withdrew
from the Sinai because he woke up one morning and so decided, the truth is that
it took a war of attrition that lasted 6 years, and the storming of the Bar Lev
line by the Egyptian army, to kick Israel out of the Sinai.
Similarly,
Ariel Sharon did not wake up one morning and said this was a good day to get
out of Gaza. It was years of resistance by Gaza’s freedom fighters that made it
costly in terms of life and treasure for the Israeli army to protect the
settlers occupying Gaza. The hemorrhaging was too much even for America to
continue bankrolling what was an ongoing Jewish crime.
In
fact, Israel did not voluntarily withdraw from one inch it occupied by force.
It was kicked out of all the places where it once was, and is no more. The
lesson here is that Israel will not vacate the West Bank on its volition.
Either America will stop bankrolling the occupation, or it will happen that someday,
somehow Israel will be kicked out of there the way it was kicked out the Sinai,
Gaza, the Eastern part of the Golan Heights and South Lebanon.
Here
is what the two authors say with regard to the Israeli-American Jewish
relations:
“The
Netanyahu years witnessed damage to relations between Israel and the American
Jewish community. Netanyahu was more interested in evangelical Christians. The
new Israeli government can change all that. The Ultra-Orthodox monopoly on many
aspects of life can be modified, for example, related to marriage, divorce,
conversion and other issues of personal status. Reform and Conservative
American Jews can be included in Israeli government planning and discussions on
issues that impact Jews worldwide”.
The
words speak for themselves, and need no further commentary from me.
And
finally, here is what Yossi Beilin and Daniel Kurtzer say about the Israeli-US
relations:
“Relations
between the US and Israel are likely to improve as the new Israeli leaders
adopt a respectful tone in their comments about American policy. The immediate
and critical problem is Iran. The Biden administration wants to re-enter the
nuclear deal in a compliance for compliance arrangement and then try to tackle
the other issues. The new Israeli leaders are not likely to agree with American
policy, and thus the question is whether quiet consultations can help mitigate
the differences. We don’t know whether this is possible, but we do know it is
urgent to work in this direction”.
Quiet
consultations didn’t work in the past anymore than did rowdy consultations. As
explained above, Israel never withdrew voluntarily from one inch of occupied
land. Because it took a war to dislodge it from everywhere, we either wait for
this to happen again — or America that is 100
percent responsible for Israel’s behavior — stops
bankrolling the occupation of Palestine, and the genocide of its people.
Future students of history will be reading and evaluating. Whether they call it Critical Race Theory or ancestors addicted to shameless prostitution, they will not be proud to show their American passport when travelling abroad.
