Imagine yourself a professor of history specialized in the rise and fall of the American Republic. It is the middle of the 22nd century, and you are standing in front of your students, lecturing on how it happened that America fell from grace and became a nuclear armed second rate power.
A related subject that keeps popping up when discussing
America, is that of the entity they used to call Israel but is now back to
being Palestine, which was its original name. What happened to both America and
Israel did not surprise anyone for, their demise had been expected for a time.
In fact, most people even believed that the fall of these two jurisdictions
will happen sooner than it did.
Fortunately, no calamity that was serious enough to
affect all of humanity ensued as some had feared might happen. It is that in
Israel, they had a civil war composed of Jews fighting Jews. Many of the savage
settlers fled Palestine whereas those who stayed put asked the Arabs to take command
of the ship of state and run it. As to America, it split into several parts,
with the process of disintegration, and massive shifts in population, and
realignment still ongoing in the 22nd century.
Today’s lesson consists of analyzing an opinion piece
that was written more than a century ago. From its content, you try to identify
what has led to the demise of what used to be superpower America. The title of
the piece is: “Biden’s Iran team falls apart,” which also came with a subtitle
that says: “Country will never give up its nuclear weapons capabilities
peacefully.” The article was written by Jed Babbin, and published on February
5, 2022 in The Washington Times.
You point out to your students that the twenty first
century opinion maker, Jed Babbin began his article by accusing the President
of the country Joe Biden of being obsessed with the renewal of a nuclear deal
that was made with Iran and several world powers by former president Barack
Obama, and was reneged on by his successor Donald Trump who also imposed harsh
sanctions on Iran.
You stress that the significance of Jed Babbin’s
accusation, rests on the fact that never before did America seem so adamant
about preventing a country from mastering the nuclear industry. In fact, Iran
did not have a nuclear arsenal at the time, was not pursuing one and never had
one to this day. By contrast, Israel on whose behalf Jed Babbin was stirring
the pot, was the one bragging about having a nuclear arsenal it did not even have.
You assert that encapsulated in this bizarre situation,
were the seeds of America’s demise. You explain that when America pretended to
be a democracy, it told the world it was run by the will of the American
people. The way this was supposed to happen, was that the people instructed
their elected representatives on how to govern, and the latter carried out the
instructions.
While this was supposedly happening, the opinion makers exposed
the process to the public by describing what they were seeing, and commenting
on it … except that this process ceased to happen either in Washington or the
state capitals the way it was supposed to. What happened instead in those
places, was that the politicians spent their time going from place to place
where they raised money to finance their reelection campaigns. And they let
their staffs run the country according to the instructions given to them, not
by the electors, but by the lobbyists.
As to the opinion makers, they ceased to describe or
comment on what they were seeing. What they did instead was become lobbyists
themselves, usually advocating for causes that did not reflect the will of the
American people. And yet, they were so influential with the staffs of the ship
of state, they became de the facto governing bodies that made things happen or
blocked them in the Federal and State legislatures.
Not only that, but the revolving door policy made it easy
for the opinion makers-cum-lobbyists to get a job in the various governments
from where they ran America for the benefit of their local and foreign paymasters.
In fact, Jed Babbin who is now an opinion maker, was at one time,
undersecretary of Defense. What this setup did, was make the governing of
America an open air show controlled by the money of the local and foreign lobbies,
the most powerful being the cabal of the various Jewish lobbies.
The internal condition for America being this chaotic,
the attitude of “everyone for himself” took hold. And then it happened that one
state after the other thought they would be better off leaving the Union that everyone
came to believe was descending into imperfection rather than ascending into the
promised perfect union. And no president in the federal capital could unify the
country again.
As to America’s external condition, it was not much
better. Despite the fact that the dollar was still used even in the states that
broke away, its value deteriorated so much that it took thousands of dollars to
buy a loaf of bread. For this reason, the Central Bank with which all the
states maintained a working relationship, cancelled the old dollar and issue a
new dollar that was exchanged for 10,000 of the old. And so, what used to be a
reserve currency for the world, was abandoned by everyone and replaced by a
medley of other currencies.
And then, it was payback time for the nations that were sanctioned
by America in the past. Those countries did to America what America did to
them. This punishment reduced America’s trade with the world to a trickle. In addition,
America lost a great deal of its manufacturing, and came close to having
primarily an agricultural economy.
